Scoooooooooooooore!
At some point Friday night, there's a good chance Bob Ellis will enthusiastically call a UMass Lowell goal.
Just like he's been doing since 1984. Friday's UMass Lowell-New Hampshire hockey game will mark the 1,362nd consecutive UMass Lowell game that Ellis will call. It's an amazing streak. UML joined Hockey East in 1984 and Ellis has described the action on the radio every step along the way without missing a game or single shift.
He does it with flair. He does with precision. Most of all, he does with enthusiasm. He's in his 37th season of calling UML hockey games, but Ellis will call Friday's game with a rookie's passion. He's known for his signature goal call.
Years ago, when Joe Gambardella scored a shorthanded goal against Vermont, Ellis screamed, "Scoooooooooooooore!" He was told he stretched a five-letter word (score) into eight seconds. Five head coaches - Billy Riley, Bruce Crowder, Tim Whitehead, Blaise MacDonald and Norm Bazin - have been behind the bench while Ellis has been behind his microphone.
He's watched the team struggle. He's also watched the program win three Hockey East playoff titles and advance to the 2013 Frozen Four. Do yourself a favor, tune into WCAP (980 AM) Friday at 6 p.m. Listen to a local legend call a game. For the 1,362nd time in a row.
