UML recruit update

Here's an update on the 11 players who have committed to the UMass Lowell hockey program. Some will arrive on campus later this year, some in 2022, some not for a couple of years. Stats updated through weekend.


Gabe Blanchard, 6-0, 192, East Aurora, N.Y., left shot defenseman, Sioux City, United States Hockey League

Stats: 3-6-9 in 32 games.

Last week: One assist in three games. Picked up assist vs. Lincoln. No penalty minutes.

Notes: His 81 penalty minutes are fourth highest in the USHL ... has been compared to former UML defenseman Nick Schaus for his physical style of play.


Ben Brunette, 5-11, 154, North Bay, Ont., left shot defenseman, Carleton Place, Central Canada Hockey League

Stats: 0-0-0 in 0 games.

Last week: Carleton Place returned to play two games, but Brunette was not in the lineup for either game.

Notes: 7-18-25 in 58 GP with Carleton in 2019-20 season ... 1-2-3 line in five preseason scrimmages.


Owen Cole, 5-9, 170, Dunnville, Ont., left shot forward, Brooks, Alberta Junior Hockey League

Stats: 1-1-2 in 2 games.

Notes: Cole's season is done after just two games ... AJHL cancelled rest of season on Feb. 8 ... Cole scored 91 points in 80 games in previous two seasons with Ottawa Jr. Senators (CCHL).


Matthew Crasa, 5-11, 185, New York, N.Y., right shot forward, Fargo, United States Hockey League

Stats: 8-9-17 in 35 games.

Last week: 0-0-0 in two games. Put three shots on goal vs. Tri-City on Saturday.

Notes: Seventh on Fargo team in scoring ... was recently named game's No. 1 star after netting winning goal ... has four points in last seven games ... has put shots on net in 27 of his 35 games.


Justin Dauphinas, 6-1, 185, Val Caron, Ont., left shot forward, Rockland, Central Canada Hockey League

Stats: 1-1-2 in 2 games.

Last week: Tallied goal and assist in two games. Picked up assist vs. Navan on Friday and goal vs. Navan on Sunday. Named game's No. 2 star Sunday

Notes: Netted 5-15-20 line in 60 games for Rockland in 2019-20 season ... had one goal in five preseason scrimmages.


Daniil Dolzhenko, 6-0, 168, Omsk, Russia, left shot defenseman, Notre Dame, Saskatchewan League

Stats: 2-5-7 in 6 games.

Notes: Rare player to commit to UML as 16-year-old ... League has suspended play for rest of season, though Hounds may be allowed to practice ... Third year playing for Notre Dame.


Owen Fowler, 5-10, 190, Tewksbury, Mass., left shot forward, Omaha, United States Hockey League

Stats: 7-4-11 in 35 games ... 6-3-9 in 18 games after being traded from Des Moines to Omaha.

Last week: 1-0-1 in two games. Scored goal vs. Waterloo on Friday.

Notes: 18-year-old starting to excel after being dealt to Omaha ... has six points and three goals over last seven games.


Aidan Harper, 6-2, 170, Gurnee, Ill., left catching goaltender, New Jersey, National Collegiate Development Conference

Stats: 21-1-3 record, 1.61 goals against average, .943 save percentage.

Last week: No games.

Notes: Harper leads the NCDC in most wins, lowest GAA and best save percentage ... terrific bounce back season after struggling in USHL last season for Sioux City and Cedar Rapids.


Isac Jonsson, 5-10, 178, Angelholm, Sweden, left shot defenseman, Tri-City, United States Hockey League

Stats: 3-12-15 in 26 games.

Last week: 2-1-3 in two games. Scored goal vs. Fargo on Saturday. Scored goal, assist vs. Sioux City on Sunday. Named game's No. 1 star Sunday.

Notes: Making successful jump from Sweden to North American game ... outstanding skater with offensive skill ... has 11 points in his last 12 games.


Roc Truman, 6-0, 190, Lethbridge, Alb., left shot forward, Bonnyville, Alberta Junior Hockey League

Stats: 0-0-0 in 3 games.

Notes: Season is over after AJHL cancelled play Feb. 8 ... brother of Scout Truman ... scored 70 points in 79 games in previous two seasons with Drumheller (AJHL).


Scout Truman, 5-10, 181, Lethbridge, Alb., left shot forward, Des Moines, United States Hockey League

Stats: 4-11-15 in 28 games

Last week: 1-0-1 in three games. Scored goal in 3-2 win over Green Bay.

Notes: Like Fowler, an 18-year-old making jump to USHL, the toughest junior league in the nation ... excelling of late, netting six points in his last seven games ... posted three-assist performance the week before ... brother of Roc Truman.
