The king of Twitter

The Internet can be a bottomless cesspool on some days.

But there is a ray of sunshine during what is often a dark search for truth or laughter. It's the funniest thing on Twitter - and it's not even close - something that's made me laugh out loud when I check my phone while grocery shopping.

I'm referring to Super 70s Sports, the brainchild of a Chicago man, Ricky Cobb, a sociology professor at an Illinois community college. He started his Twitter account at the end of 2013 and began posting content more regularly in 2015. He now has more than 500,000 followers.

It should be 5,000,000. The guy is that funny, that clever. Consider the picture I posted. Here's the caption: Kids, get over here, I want one last picture of you guys with the house before it fully incinerates. Hey, has anybody seen grandma?

The name of his account is a bit misleading. His posts aren't always about sports and the content doesn't always relate to pictures taken in the 1970s. But the posts are nearly always hilarious. His captions, his use of language, is usually perfect. Disclaimer: Cobb often uses expletives in his captions.

For those not offended by a few cuss words, Super 70s Sports is a must follow. I've spread the Cobb gospel to about 10 of my friends and they've all thanked me. And he's prolific, posting more than a dozen times a day.

As someone who grew up in the 1970s, Cobb nails the decade, especially when it comes to technology, what we were listening to on the radio and what we were watching on television.

Another one of my favorites was a picture of a young Fidel Castro playing basketball. He's going in for a layup. He's surrounded by defenders, but no one is especially close. The caption: Fidel Castro drives the lane while the other team employs the "I want to live to see my family again" defense.

Brilliant.
