He grew up in Lowell, attended middle school in the city and played pickup basketball at various courts throughout the city.
Now Terance Mann is carving out a bigger role on one of the top teams in the NBA. A second-year small forward out of Florida State, Mann played a prominent role in leading the Los Angeles Clippers past the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday, 117-105.
With starters Kawhi Leonard, Paul George and Reggie Jackson out of the lineup, Mann filled in admirably. He netted 19 points, six off his career high, and added 6 rebounds and 7 assists while playing 34 minutes during the win in Los Angeles. He hit all six of his free throw attempts.
Mann certainly made the most of his seventh start of the season.
At the end of the third quarter he threw down a ferocious dunk after a pass from Yogi Ferrell. For the season, the 6-foot-5 Mann is averaging 6.6 points and 3.7 rebounds per game. Pretty impressive considering he's trying to earn minutes with the Clippers (42-19). Only Utah (44-15) and Phoenix (42-16) had better records entering play Thursday.
As a middle-school student in Lowell, a friend gave him a rookie card of Rajon Rondo, then the point guard of the Boston Celtics. He tucked it inside his wallet for good luck. Now Rondo is his teammate in Los Angeles.
The Clippers are a true NBA championship contender. And Mann is showing he's up to the task when called upon.
