A promising 19-year-old defenseman has committed to play hockey at UMass Lowell.
TJ Schweighardt is in his second season in the United States Hockey League. The 6-foot, 182-pound skater has two goals and six assists in 32 games for the Omaha Lancers. He was a plus-2 in Omaha's most recent game.
The New Jersey native has begun to fill up the scoresheet more recently. In Omaha's last eight games, Schweighardt has two goals and three assists.
In 2019-20, he played for three teams - the New Jersey Hitmen of the USPHL, the Jersey Hitmen of the NCDC and Cedar Rapids of the USHL. In 35 games with Cedar Rapids, the right-shooting Schweighardt had a 2-4-6 line.
Prior to that, he was an all-state defenseman in New Jersey for Don Bosco Prep. In 2019, he led Don Bosco to a 5-3 win over Delbarton in the Gordon Cup final when he netted a hat trick.
Schweighardt produced big numbers for Don Bosco in 2017-18 (6-19-25 in 17 games) and 2018-19 (17-32-49 in 28 games).
