Goodbye to the Glenview

The demolition of a Chelmsford landmark has begun.

On Monday, in sweltering conditions, a Danley Demolition crew out of Fremont, N.H., knocked down a section of the Glenview Pub and Grill. The front of the building, where hundreds of thousands of patrons walked through the door since it opened in 1956, was demolished.

There are two types of people from the Lowell area: Those who ate regularly at the Glenview and those who occasionally ate there. Waiting times were common at the one-level Princeton Street establishment, especially on Friday and Saturday nights.

The Glenview was one of the busiest restaurants in greater Lowell in recent decades. Large menu. Good food. Friendly service. A lively bar area. Everyone seemed to know everyone.

Whether you were in the mood for a giant plate of nachos or to play a couple of games of Keno, the Glenview was almost always packed.

Mike Lenzi bought the Glenview in 2019 with the intention of reopening it under the name Lenzi's Glenview. The Dracut restauranteur never got the chance. The pandemic put an end to those plans.

Instead, there are plans to have the plot of land, located just down the street from the Lowell line, be the site of condominiums.

Several people stood in 90-degree weather Monday outside the construction fence. Many took photos. So many meals. So many memories. It was the end of several eras.
